Fishing Details
Anglers will find Black Canyon of the Gunnison National Park to have some fantastic waters. So good that the Gunnison River within the park is designated as a Gold Medal Water and Wild Trout Water by the Colorado Wildlife Commission. Anglers generally take one of two routes to reach great fishing in the National Park: East Portal Road and Inner Canyon hikes. You can catch some very large fish here, but there are limits: only artificial flies and lures are permitted; all rainbow trout are catch-and-release; the day limit on brown trout is 4 and the possession limit is 8; and there's no fishing within 200 yards downstream of Crystal Dam. Additionally you'll need a Colorado Fishing License; a wilderness permit is required if you plan to attempt the rugged Inner Canyon hikes to isolated trout streams.
