Devils Lookout Details
Devil's Lookout, an easy 0.3 mile trail to yet another stunning overlook, is located 2.8 miles west of the Visitor Center on Rim Road. As with other overlooks, a short hike--0.6 miles round-trip--leads from a roadside parking area to a rocky promontory over the Gunnison River and Black Canyon. If you look at aerial photos or topographic maps, you'll see that Devil's Lookout, Rock Point Trail and Cross Fissures Trail extend to the northeast like fingers, each one offering a different view of the canyon. The trail itself is easy, but can get dusty during dry seasons, and traces an easy path through the scrublands along the canyon rim. Near the overlook you'll find a couple of different places to post up and observe the canyon, each one offering a different angle on the view.
