Wawona Visitor Center Details
The Visitor Center is a good place to find Park information, reserve wilderness permits, purchase maps and books, and learn about the role landscape artist Thomas Hill played in protecting the Park and its famous giant sequoias. If you plan to explore the Yosemite backcountry, you can also pick up a bear canister here to protect your food while you're out and about. The nearby Thomas Hill Studio was built in the 1880s and was the gallery and art studio of famous 19th-century landscape painter Thomas Hill. There are two beautiful fountains here that were restored to their former splendor in 2011. The studio itself boasts lush Douglas-fir floors that were recently refurbished and will welcome visitors for many years to come. Open 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.
