Vernal Fall Footbridge Details
This is possibly the most popular, and certainly easiest, way to get good views of Vernal Fall. Serving as the beginning of the Mist Trail, the path is paved up until the bridge and remains easily accessible, but sometimes quite steep as it departs the Happy Isles. Standing over the rushing Merced River (which may look tranquil, but is too dangerous for swimming), and surrounded by glistening boulders, ferns, and light mist from the falls, the bridge is an enjoyable way to view some of the Park's well-loved features. From this viewpoint, Liberty Cap and the roaring Vernal Fall are visible, as well as a rare look at Illilouette Fall. This trail is also the terminus for the famous John Muir Trail.
