Happy Isles Trail Details
The "happy isles" are the two islands which are located in the Merced River at this point. This trail provides access to the islands via beautifully constructed bridges. Starting at the Happy Isles Shuttle Stop #16, proceed past the restrooms and follow the trail towards the Nature Center, where you'll find child-centered exhibits that are open between June and August. Just beyond the Nature Center is an interpretive sign which describes the rock falls that have occurred in the area (be sure to view the Yosemite Nature Notes video on rockfalls which relates to this area). From here, you can cross over the first of two bridges that take you onto the Happy Isles. The next bridge brings you to the second island, at which point the trail dead-ends. Be sure to take a moment to observe the power of the beautiful Merced River. Trailhead: Located at the Happy Isles Shuttle Stop #16. Vehicles are not allowed on this section of the road, so you'll have to park at Half Dome Village and either walk or take the free Shuttle Bus. Restrooms: Located at the Happy Isles Shuttle Stop #16, these are one of the nicest restrooms facilities in the Valley, including full flush toilets and recent renovations. This is also a great location to fill up water bottles.
