Plants and Flowers Details
Yosemite has five distinct vegetation zones -- Foothill Woodland Zone, Lower Montane Forest, Upper Montane Forest, Subalpine Forest, and the Alpine Zone -- so its flora varies considerably depending upon your elevation. The Giant Sequoias of Mariposa Grove, Tuolumne Grove, and Merced Grove are both ancient and massive. Throughout the Park, you'll also find California Black Oak, Ponderosa Pines, and Incense Cedar trees. Common plants include Mariposa lillies growing in the shadow of pine trees and the meadow-dwelling Shooting Star.
