Pets
Pets are welcome at Yosemite, but some restrictions do apply.
Plan Around Pets
A good stop is not just something to read about. Once it belongs on the day, move into a saved trip and build the route around it.
Use this detail page to confirm that the stop is worth it, then carry that decision into a trip draft while the park context is still fresh.
Pets Details
Bringing your furry friend along to Yosemite can enhance your outdoor experience, but it's essential to adhere to park regulations to ensure the safety of both your pet and the park's natural environment. Here's a breakdown of the pet regulations in Yosemite National Park: Where Pets Are Allowed: Developed Areas: Pets are permitted in developed areas of the park, including campgrounds (with exceptions), fully paved trails, and roads. Campgrounds: Pets are allowed in most campgrounds, except for Porcupine Flat and walk-in campgrounds. Designated Roads: Pets may accompany you on fully paved trails and roads, excluding those signed as not allowing pets. Specific Locations: Certain areas permit pets despite the general prohibition on unpaved roads, such as the Meadow Loop and Four Mile fire roads in Wawona, Carlon Road, and Old Big Oak Flat Road between Hodgdon Meadow and Hazel Green Creek. Where Pets Are Not Allowed: Wilderness Areas: Pets are prohibited in wilderness areas to preserve the park's pristine natural habitats. Unpaved Trails and Roads: Pets are not allowed on unpaved or poorly paved trails, or roads covered in snow. Shuttle Buses: Pets are not permitted on shuttle buses to ensure the comfort and safety of all passengers. Concessionaire Lodging Areas: Pets are restricted from concessionaire lodging areas to maintain a peaceful environment for guests. Group or Horse Camps: Pets are not allowed in group or horse camps for safety reasons. Responsibilities of Pet Owners: Waste Cleanup: Pet owners must clean up after their pets and deposit feces in designated trash receptacles to maintain cleanliness and hygiene. Wildlife Interaction: Pets must be kept under control to prevent chasing wildlife and disturbances to the park's ecosystem. Yosemite Hospitality Dog Kennel: Yosemite Hospitality operates a dog kennel in Yosemite Valley from Memorial Day through Labor Day. Written proof of immunizations (rabies, distemper, parvo, and Bordetella) is required for all dogs. Dogs must weigh at least 20 pounds, although smaller dogs may be considered if a small kennel is provided. For more information about the kennel, contact (209) 372-8348.
