Nevada Fall Details

This 594-foot waterfall flows quickly over worn granite cliffs before splashing into a mass of boulders at its base, the impact yielding huge clouds of mist that inundate the surrounding area. Its name is derived from an old Spanish definition of "nevada" meaning "snowy" -- or perhaps because at a certain angle, the unique shape of the falls echoes that of the state of Nevada. The top of the falls, a very beautiful spot of polished granite, lush forest, and swirling water, is accessible by both the Mist Trail and the John Muir Trail. Both first pass Vernal Fall and can be quite strenuous at times. Height: 594 feet Flows: all year, with peak flow in late May.
