Birdwatching Details
Yosemite National Park is a bird watchers paradise. Here you'll find over 165 different species of birds throughout the year in what has been designated an Important Bird Area and World Heritage Site. Yosemite's dramatic gradients, and subsequently diverse habitats and weather, make it a phenomenal place for both birds and birders. With over 11,000 feet difference between the high and low points of Yosemite, birds of all kinds can find a desirable habitat. Typical sightings include American Robin, acorn woodpecker, common raven, and mountain chickadee and the red-winged blackbird. Migrating birds make use of Yosemite National Park in the spring and fall, allowing for great spotting opportunities. Specifically in the spring, you can spot neotropical migrants such as warblers, vireos, flycatchers, and tanagers. Some of the more iconic birds that visitors flock (yes, visitors flock too) to Yosemite to get a glimpse of include the gray owl, spotted owl, peregrine falcon, pileated woodpecker and northern goshawk.
