Artist Point Details
Leave the crowds behind at Tunnel View and head up this trail to experience the view that inspired Thomas Ayres to draw his iconic picture of Yosemite Valley in June of 1855. Ayres was the first professional artist to draw the valley from this point. His work was later published in the _California Magazine _and contributed to Yosemite's growth in early tourism. The trail starts at the west end of the south-side Tunnel View parking lot and proceeds up the Pohono Trail, which continues all the way to Glacier Point and passes through Inspiration Point. After approximately 500 feet and .6 miles, you'll want to turn left at the old stagecoach road and proceed another half-mile to Artist Point. There is a false lookout just before Artist Point that is obscured by trees, so you'll want to continue a bit further to the main lookout. If you cross over Artist Creek, you've gone too far. If you continue on this trail, eventually you'll return to Highway 41, just above Bridalveil Fall. Trailhead: The trailhead is located at the Tunnel View parking lot located on the Wawona Road/Highway 41, approximately two miles from Bridalveil Fall. Restroom: The nearest restroom is located at the Bridalveil Fall parking lot.
