Top Events Details

There are a number of annual events in Sequoia and Kings Canyon. The parks celebrate Earth Hour in March, when all unnecessary lights in the park are turned off for an hour in the evening. There's complimentary hot chocolate, s'mores, and games available in the John Muir Lodge lobby, as well at as the amphitheater near Wuksachi; as a couples-only candlelight dinner is served at the Grant Grove Restaurant. On Earth Day, the park sponsors a cleanup of snowplay areas in Grant Grove and hosts an Earth Day Fair at Lodgepole, where vendors sell a variety of sustainable products. The parks' annual Dark Sky Festival is held in September, with star programs, telescope demonstrations, and campfire talks. All programs are free. On the second Sunday of each December is the annual Christmas Trek to the Tree, when park rangers and guests hike to the Grant Tree for a ceremony that includes placing a memorial wreath.
