Simpson-Reed Trail Details
Take a stroll on this popular one-mile loop trail through a moist, verdant redwood grove. The trail begins at a marked trailhead on the east side of Walker Road, about 0.1 miles after leaving Highway 199. The easy access means you likely won't find yourself out here alone. The thousand-year-old giants standing around you are interspersed with fallen redwoods that are considered 'nurse trees,' because as they decay they create supportive environments for the establishment of ferns, shrubs, and saplings. The trunks criss-crossing the stream here also provide necessary habitat for amphibians and insects. This part of the forest is thicker and more vegetated than some of the other groves. This trail is wheelchair-accessible.
