Kid-Friendly Options Details

If you're visiting the park with kids, check out campground bulletin boards or the visitor center for a schedule of Junior Ranger Programs. These last about an hour and are appropriate for children ages 7-12. A ranger-naturalist will lead fun, hands-on activities to help kids learn about the people, plants, animals, and ecosystems of the redwoods. Junior Ranger Programs are offered at Jedediah Smith, Mill Creek, and Prairie Creek campgrounds. There are also independent Junior Ranger activities; ask at any information center for a list of things your kids must accomplish to earn a badge. There are many family-friendly hikes and walks in the park. See the Hiking section for ideas and details. For the adventurous family, consider a ranger-led kayak tour. To take part, kids must be at least 10 years old, able to swim in moving water, and weigh no less than 50 and no more than 220 pounds. Each child (ages 10-17) must be accompanied by an adult.
