Camping Details

Redwoods National and State Parks have ample camping opportunities in established and backcountry campgrounds. There are four established campgrounds within park boundaries with different amenities and capacities. From north to south the campgrounds are: Jedediah Smith Campground, the northernmost campground and close to hiking trails; Mill Creek Campground, the largest campground, with 145 sites; Elk Prairie Campground, an easily accessible campground in the heart of old-growth redwoods; and Gold Bluffs Campground, a small campground along the coast. Visitors can also camp in the park's backcountry at one of eight designated sites. These sites require a free backcountry permit obtained from a visitor center, and have basic amenities such as pit toilets, tables, and fire pits. Backcountry campers must bring their own water in or purify water from natural sources inside the park. All four park campgrounds take reservations in advance: call 1-800-444-7275. Reservations are highly encouraged for stays between Memorial Day and Labor Day. All campgrounds charge the same rates: $35 per night, with a discounted rate of $17.50 per night for California State Pass, Federal Pass, and Senior Pass Holders.
