Natural Features Details
Natural features include grasslands, chaparral, oak woodlands, canyons, talus caves and towering rock spires. In fact, those towering rock spires are the park's namesake, its "Pinnacles." Millions of years ago, volcanic eruptions and landslides created a 30-mile wide volcanic field that's the foundation for the park we see today. After the San Andreas Fault split the field in two, conditions such as chemical erosion and weathering birthed the rock formations that now draw 250,000 visitors per year.
