FAQ Details

**How should I prepare for a trip to the park?** You should be aware that Highway 146 doesn't connect the east and west side of Pinnacles. The east side is located off highway 25 about 30 miles north of Hollister. The west side is found 12 miles east of Soledad off highway 101. Both entrances to Pinnacles are located on Highway 146, which is obstructed within the park boundary by the Pinnacles rock formations. **What can I see from my car?** Pinnacles National Monument is primarily a hiking park. If you are attempting to see the park by automobile the west side of Pinnacles will allow you can get an easy view of the Pinnacles' High Peaks from the Chaparral Ranger Station parking area. **Can I bring my pet?** Pets are allowed in paved areas, including parking lots, picnic areas, and the campground, but are prohibited on all hiking trails. Pets must be on a 6-foot leash and be attended to at all times. **What is the status of the Caves?** There are two talus caves at the park. On the east side of Pinnacles, the Bear Gulch cave is home to a sensitive colony of Townsend's Big-Eared Bats (note the icon for this app). The Balconies cave is located on the Old Pinn Trail, accessible from the east side and west side. Please bring your flashlights for any cave you plan to explore. **What are the Pinnacles?** The pinnacles are rocky spires that remain from an ancient volcanic field. Millions of years worth of volcanic activity, tectonic plate movement, and erosion have created the rugged landscape we see in the park today. **When is the peak of the wildflower season?** The best months to see wildflowers are March, April, and May.
