Backcountry Information Details
While the Visitor Center, Bear Gulch Nature Center, Park Headquarters and the Pinnacles Campground are all located on the east side of the park, the west side is less developed and may appeal more to those seeking a backcountry experience. Pinnacles is primarily a hiking park. And while there are paved trails, there are lots of unpaved trails, too. Explore the ones surrounding the rocky spires that were once part of an ancient volcanic field. You'll also find two caves at the park - Bear Gulch Cave is home to Townsend's Big-Eared Bats! Bring a flashlight if you plan to check out either cave. The park explodes with gorgeous wildflowers from March through May. Visit on a weekday to see the blooms without all the crowds.
