Plan Around Bicycling
A good stop is not just something to read about. Once it belongs on the day, move into a saved trip and build the route around it.
Use this detail page to confirm that the stop is worth it, then carry that decision into a trip draft while the park context is still fresh.
Bicycling Details
Bikes are welcome in Joshua Tree on any road open to vehicles, including backcountry roads. Twenty-nine miles of trails have also been designated for non-motorized bike use by the park's Backcountry and Wilderness Management Plan, although they cannot be used until Congress gives its approval. Carry plenty of water — at least one gallon per person per day — and wear a helmet. Park roads are also narrow, with ruts bumps and sandy shoulders, making them far more welcoming to mountain bikes than road bikes. Watch for RVs and trucks with extended side-view mirrors and make sure to wear reflective clothing after dark.
