The Eastern Sierra InterAgency Visitor Center, located at the junction of US Highway 395 and State Route 136 one mile south of Lone Pine, Calif., provides information on everything from visiting Death Valley to scaling the heights of Mt. Whitney, the highest peak in the lower 48 U.S. states. The visitor center is operated collaboratively by the US Forest Service, Bureau of Land Management, National Park Service, Los Angeles Department of Water and Power, Inyo County, Mono County, California Department of Transportation, and California Department of Fish and Wildlife. The Eastern Sierra Interpretive Association also operates a bookstore here. The Eastern Sierra InterAgency Visitor Center is open daily from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
