Camping Details
Death Valley National Park has nine established campgrounds, plus several others on the grounds of private resorts within park boundaries. Three of the park campgrounds: Furnace Creek, Mesquite Spring, and the tent-only Emigrant Campground are open year-round. The low-altitude Sunset, Texas Spring, and Stovepipe Wells campgrounds operate in the winter months only, while the high-altitude Thorndike and Mahogany Flats campgrounds are only open during the summer. Rates range from free to $18 per night, making camping in Death Valley a true bargain (a $12 per night surcharge is added for RV hookups at the full-service Furnace Creek Campground). All campgrounds other than Furnace Creek are first-come, first served. Furnace Creek reservations for the peak period of Oct. 15-April 15 can be made online at Recreation.gov or by calling 1-877-444-6777 (this campground also is first-come, first-served during the summer). Campsites are limited to 8 people and two vehicles or one RV per site. Larger groups can reserve the group sites at Furnace Creek. There is a maximum limit of 4 pets per campsite, as well, and pets must be kept on a leash. You also must pick up after your pet. Firewood and charcoal are available for purchase at the Stovepipe Wells General Store or the Furnace Creek General Store, or bring your own; no wood can be gathered in the park. In addition to Furnace Creek Campground, RV hookup sites are available at the concession-run Stovepipe Wells RV Park and the private Ranch at Death Valley and Panamint Springs Resort.
