Swimming Details

Swimming is possible within Channel Islands National Park, but there are a few things to consider before diving in. Ocean conditions can change quickly and become dangerous, and many of the islands' beaches have steep, dangerous shore breaks. Ocean currents outside of protected coves and beaches can be strong and dangerous. There are no lifeguards on duty, and you should always use the buddy system when swimming. In addition, the water temperatures can be quite cold (55-70 degrees Fahrenheit), so wetsuits are recommended. Swimming is best off of Santa Barbara, Anacapa, and eastern Santa Cruz Island. The best beaches to check out include the Landing Coves on Santa Barbara Island and Anacapa Island and Scorpion Beach on Santa Cruz Island.
