Hiking
The park's hiking trails entice visitors to leave the sea for land.
Plan Around Hiking
A good stop is not just something to read about. Once it belongs on the day, move into a saved trip and build the route around it.
Use this detail page to confirm that the stop is worth it, then carry that decision into a trip draft while the park context is still fresh.
Hiking Details
Hiking trails and roads crisscross the five islands that comprise Channel Islands National Park, ranging from relatively flat and signed trails, to rugged, mountainous paths with little or no signage to guide you. A number of park-authorized concessioners offer guided hikes on the islands. When hiking, stay on trails and roads; avoid cliff edges; always use the buddy system; do not smoke on trails or in brush areas; and carry plenty of water: rangers suggest one quart for short walks, and more for longer walks. Also, be sure to confirm when the boat concessionaire is departing for the day; you don't want to be stranded out here because you lingered too long on the trail.
