East Anacapa Island Details
The three islets that comprise Anacapa Island total five miles in length, and East Anacapa Island is where you are likely to do most of your exploration if this is your visit to the park. After arriving at Landing Cove, you can hike along two miles of trails to see the different areas of East Anacapa. In the spring (February-April) wildflowers bloom, and Western Gulls hatch their eggs in May and June (the fledglings take flight in July). Hike to Cathedral Cove and Pinniped Point for overlooks to see seals and sea lions hauled out on the rocks below. You can also hike out to the Anacapa lighthouse, lit in 1932 and the last permanent lighthouse built on the West Coast. Camping is available at the East Islet Campground. There is also a small visitor center located in one of the the old Coast Guard buildings. You will find displays of the islands history, both cultural and natural, as well as a lens from one of the original lighthouses. There are outhouses and picnic tables available as well.
