Prairie Creek Redwoods State Park Details
The majority of this 14,000-acre park is covered in old-growth redwood forests, including the legendary Big Tree, Corkscrew Redwood, and the Cathedral Trees. As one of the only old-growth forests remaining, it’s a designated World Heritage Site and listed on the California Coast Ranges International Biosphere Reserve. There are almost a dozen different hiking trails (ranging from .6-miles to 11.6-miles). While wandering down the trails, look for Roosevelt elks wandering through the meadows or forest. If you're visiting during the weekend from October to May, you can also participate in "Hike and Bike Day." The park closes down all its roads to vehicular traffic so that cyclists, runners, and dog-walks can explore at their leisure.
