Considered to be a mini version of Yosemite National Park, this 1,006-acre property is known for its ancient redwood trees, some of which are over 1,000 years old. It is located at the foothills of the Santa Lucia Mountains near the mouth of the Big Sur River, which also is a thriving habitat for oaks, sycamores, and maple trees. Guests have many recreation activities at their disposal. There are several trails that lead through the forest, although the Valley View Trail to the 60-foot waterfall is by far the most popular hike. It is also possible to spend the night here, either at a tented site near the river or in a cozy room at the charming Big Sur Lodge.
