China Camp State Park Details

For over 300 years, the land in this state park was inhabited by a melting pot of cultures, including native Miwok tribes, Spanish colonists, and more recently, Chinese immigrants. At one point during the early 1900s, over 10,000 immigrants lived in this area, fishing for shrimp or operating local businesses to support themselves. Most of the residents left soon after a ban on exporting shrimp was signed by the state, and the land was converted into a state park in 1976. Besides exploring the historic fishing village, you can also go hiking, camping, sailing, boating, or paddle boating in San Pablo Bay. The park also hosts numerous Chinese-American culture events throughout the year, including lion dances, tai chi demonstrations, and arts and craft shows.
