WWII Heritage Trail Details
The heritage trail takes hikers past several World War II installations that aided in protecting the American Samoa from a Japanese invasion. The trail winds through a tropical forest that also makes for great bird watching. The last section of the trail has ladders with ropes to help hikers get up the steep embankments. The trail terminates at an old tramway that was used to transport visitors to the summit of Mount Alava. The trailhead is shared with the Blunts Point Trail. See Blunts Point Trail for directions to the trailhead. You can loop the trail by continuing down the road at the tramway until it intersects with another road. Turn right until you reach route 001. Turn right onto Route 001 to return to the parking lot.
