Plan Around Wildlife Viewing
A good stop is not just something to read about. Once it belongs on the day, move into a saved trip and build the route around it.
Use this detail page to confirm that the stop is worth it, then carry that decision into a trip draft while the park context is still fresh.
Wildlife Viewing Details
Prepare to see plenty of whales, dolphins, and other marine based mammals during your stay in the American Samoa. There are no scheduled tours to view offshore marine animals, so be prepared to book a private charter before your visit. Otherwise, enjoy some of the animals that inhabit the island, like bats (which are the only native land species of the island!). You'll also see sea turtles and the occasional non-poisonous snake. There are also plenty of fish to see, as over 800 species call the waters of American Samoa home. Check out the mammals and reptiles [checklist!](http://https://www.nps.gov/npsa/learn/nature/upload/mammals_reptiles_checklist-2.pdf)
