Trees and Plants Details
Plant communities and ecosystems from the very top of the American Samoa to the coastal beaches fall under tropical rainforest. This means that the forest is an evergreen forest and vegetation is largely due to the equatorial climate. Heavy rains ensure the vegetation is almost always lush and green. Unlike the temperate forests of North America, tropical rainforests have a high species diversity. Expect to see many, many different types of plants and trees while exploring the island, from banana plantations to lush ferns. Samoa is a young ocean island formed by volcanos, so it lacks any earlier land connection to continental masses. The native species got to the island by chance, so it is not as diverse as Australia or Southeast Asia.
