There are often traditional Samoan ceremonies that take place in and around the park, including pig roasts and occasional tribal dance performances. Getting to know the Samoans will increase the likelihood of being invited to attend one of these events. Additionally, the park has a few specific annual events, like the National Park's anniversary, which happens every 31st of October. National Flag day is another popular (and free event) which occurs annually on April 17th. On flag day, the people of American Samoa celebrate the raising of the American flag on Tutuila island on April 17, 1900, which officially declared American sovereignty over Tutuila and Aunu'u.
