Overview Details
The only U.S. national park located south of the equator, the National Park of American Samoa protects coral reefs and paleotropic rainforests on three Samoan islands: Tutuila, Ta'u, and Ofu. Of the park's 13,500 acres, about 4,000 are underwater. Largely undeveloped, the park attracts intrepid visitors who want to hike to the summit of rainforest covered peaks, linger on secluded beaches, see tropical wildlife, snorkel over coral reefs, and discover remote villages. The park visitor center, located in Pago Pago, contains information on Samoan culture as well as native flora and fauna. Established: October 31, 1988 Area: 9,000.00 acres Website: [www.nps.gov/npsa](http://www.nps.gov/npsa)
