Animals and Wildlife Details
The American Samoa boasts what is considered to be perhaps the most unique among all US National Parks. Key animal forms shape the natural ecosystems. One of the most influential animals are the flying foxes, aka fruit bats, that pollinate the land and plants of the tropical rain forests. The fruit bats can have a wingspan of up to 3 feet and stay active at both day and night. This particular species of fruit bat is found only in the Samoan Islands and Fiji - you'll see these creatures flying around quite frequently. The reefs also house an amazing amount of diverse aquatic animals, including over 800 fish and quite a few marine mammals, like whales and dolphins.
