The forest is to the north and west of Hot Springs, and is used for multiple functions and activities, including timber and wood production, wildlife habitat, and outdoor recreation. There's RV and tent camping available to visitors, as well as camping cabins, and there are a number of trails for hiking, mountain biking, horseback riding, and off-road vehicles. Lake Ouachita also lies within the forest boundaries; fishing and non-motorized boating are permitted on the lake.
