City of Hot Springs Details
The city of Hot Springs, Arkansas, which surrounds Hot Springs National Park, has a population of a little over 35,000 residents. The area's naturally flowing hot springs have attracted people for thousands of years; the city was formally incorporated in 1851. Much of the town's history is preserved via the National Park Service, which maintains Bathhouse Row. Historic downtown Hot Springs features the Hot Springs Central Avenue Historic District, which is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Visitors will find plentiful hotels, shops and restaurants. The city also contains quite a few historic hotels and motor courts, built in art deco style during the spas' heyday during the Great Depression. Because of the attraction of its thermal waters, there was quite a bit of construction during that time, when many other cities saw a sharp decline in development.
