Wildlife Details
Think the roadrunner only exists in cartoons? Think again! Roadrunners are often seen by visitors to Saguaro National Park in lower lying areas, as are horned lizards, Gila monsters, kangaroo rats, and collared peccaries. At higher elevations, where cooler temperatures can be found, you may see black bears and white-tailed deer. Take a peek into precious desert waters to spot leopard frogs and mud turtles. Other wildlife you may see include bobcats, mountain lions, jackrabbits, woodpeckers, whiskered screech owls, and Mexican jays. On ground level, keep your eyes peeled for desert tortoises and plenty of snakes, including Western coral snakes and six species of rattlesnakes.
