Camping Details
Camping is permitted in six designated campgrounds within the Saguaro Wilderness Area, and one permit is required per campsite, per night. Always follow Leave No Trace practices when camping. Be sure to start your trip with plenty of water, and know where water sources are before heading out; current water reports are available at the visitors centers, or by calling (520) 733-5153. Each campground is located next to a stream or spring, but water is not necessarily available throughout the year, especially during dry seasons. The six campgrounds are: Douglas Spring (4,800 feet elevation, three campsites); Grass Shack (5,300 feet elevation, three campsites); Happy Valley Saddle (6,200 feet elevation, three campsites); Juniper Basin (6,000 feet elevation, three campsites); Manning Camp (8,000 feet elevation, six campsites); and Spud Rock Spring (7,400 feet elevation, three campsites). Up to six people are permitted at each campsite, and groups cannot exceed 18 people. You should also take note of the hours, as camp hosts do lock the gates!
