Use this detail page to confirm that the stop is worth it, then carry that decision into a trip draft while the park context is still fresh.
Backpacking Details
If you're feeling adventurous, throw on your backpack for an extended hike into the park's rugged wilderness. The 57,930 acres of Saguaro Wilderness Area is found in the Rincon Mountain District; this is roadless backcountry with plenty of places to hike and essentially be out on your own. If you want a challenge, the wilderness area offers the opportunity to climb from 3,000 feet in elevation to more than 8,000 feet in just 15 miles or so. Permits are required though through Sagauro NPS. You can [download and apply for the permit](https://www.nps.gov/sagu/planyourvisit/upload/Saguaro-Wilderness-Modified-for-2015-7.pdf) before you trip to ensure you are all set to head into the backcountry!
