Sunrise/Sunset Details
Petrified Forest National Park offers a number of good spots for sunrise and sunset viewing. One of the nicest spots to catch a sunrise is Blue Mesa, where the colorful hills absorb and reflect the morning sun. The Painted Desert, in the northern part of the park, glows in the setting sun, as the fading rays seem to change the colors of the red and orange rock before your eyes. A series of overlooks off Petrified Forest Road offer panoramic views of the desert: Chinde Point is best for sunrise or sunset, while Tiponi, Tawa, No Name, and Kachina Points face east and Pintado, Nizhoni, Whipple and Lacey Points face west.
