Holbrook, Ariz., 26 miles west of Petrified Forest National Park on Interstate 40, is the county seat for Navajo County and has a population of around 5,000. It was founded in 1881 and is named for the first chief engineer of the Atlantic and Pacific Railroad. The centerpiece of town is the 1898 courthouse, which is on the National Register of Historic Places. The town offers a number of restaurants, gas stations, and hotels.
