Uncle Jim Trail Details

Traveling in the shade of the Ponderosa Pines that cover the North Rim, this easy trail follows the North Rim, occasionally reaching close enough to the edge to allow spectacular views of Roaring Springs Canyon and, further below, Bright Angel Canyon. Terminating at Uncle Jim Point, a location for tethering mule packs in the summer, and Walhalla Plateau, Deva, and Zoroaster Temples are usually visible from this peaceful point. The trail was named for James T. Owens, the warden of the Grand Canyon National Preserve prior to its addition to the National Park System, and an avid mountain lion hunter who is held accountable for contributing significantly to the endangerment of the species.
