Tanner Trail Details
Beginning at the South Rim's Lipan Point, the Tanner Trail quickly drops into a narrow, shady end of Tanner Canyon, occasionally offering decent views down the Colorado River corridor. Views get better toward the middle of the trail. After dropping 1,000 feet to the river the trail flattens out and reaches sand dunes and campsites. While the trail is often in good condition, it is a backcountry trail, and there are a number of difficult descents. The majority of the trail is very exposed, and the river is the only source of water.
