Escalante Route Details

Once an old Hopi route that was later used by 19th century prospectors, this connector trail offers a number of surprisingly good views as it descents 1,800 feet from the North Rim. The trail is intended to provide access to the Beamer Trail and the Escalante Trail, which hosts a number of other trail junctions. From the exposed trail there are vast, panoramic views down the entire valley, following the Colorado River through the canyon, which is especially wide in this area. Although there is decent camping near the river, the river is often silt-filled, and cannot be relied on as a good water source.
