Falls Details
Although many trails and routes in Grand Canyon National Park are well maintained, the majority can be rough and unstable. Falls can and do happen, but there are a number of ways to avoid them. Stick to designated trails and paths. Don't venture too close to cliff edges, especially in less-trafficked areas. Wear good hiking boots, and use walking poles or sticks when necessary to promote better balance. Pack as lightly as possible, but don't neglect the essentials, and remember to bring emergency signaling gear, like mirrors or whistles. Go slowly, and check suspicious footing and weight-bearing areas before exerting full force on them.
