Liberty Falls Trail Details

This moderately challenging trail ascends a rocky ridge for spectacular views of the rugged wilderness. To access the trail, look for a sign and gravel drive on the side of the Edgerton Highway at mile 23.3. It is about 100 yards before the Liberty Falls Recreation Site. From the trailhead, climb through spruce to the ridgeline where you can see the Copper River below. It involves some scrambling over boulders and rocks, but you can continue on the trail to the end where there is a clearing with an overlook. From here, take in the panorama of the Chugach and Wrangell Mountain Ranges. You can choose to continue on an informal trail that descends to a pond, but the views are better from the overlook. This area can be buggy; don't forget insect repellent. This trail is maintained by the Bureau of Land Management. It goes through private property so stay on the trail at all times.
