Fishing Details

Wrangell-St. Elias has hundreds of miles of streams and rivers and countless ponds and lakes to fish. Visitors can fish for sockeye, coho, and king salmon as well as lake trout, Dolly Varden, burbot, grayling, cutthroat and rainbow trout. Anglers looking specifically for salmon should head to Klutina and Gulkana Rivers. All anglers must have a valid Alaska Fishing License. The administrative regions that the park falls in are the Upper Copper/Upper Susitna Rivers Basin and the Arctic-Yukon Area; any fishing in the park must follow these up to date regulations on bagging and possesion limits. Generally the bag and possession limit is 10 grayling, 10 Dolly Varden, 10 rainbow trout, 10 lake trout (less than 20"), 3 lake trout over 20", 1 king salmon, 3 other salmon over 16", and 10 salmon under 16". Fisherman need to check the Sport Fish office in Glennallen and the State regulations for specific details.
