Backcountry Information Details
Most of the park land is backcountry, visitors should prepare and learn about visiting the backcountry in advance. Backcountry permits are not required for visiting the park, however it is highly recommended to complete an optional backcountry itinerary with park rangers at any visitor center before beginning. Bear Resistant Food Containers (BRFC) are required for all overnight backpacking trips into the backcountry, there are not trees suitable for a bear hang in the park. Fires are allowed in the backcountry, though much of the backcountry is above treeline so a backpacking stove is more logical for cooking. All drinking water collected in the park should be purified before drinking. It is highly recommended to speak with a park ranger before heading into the backcountry.
