Wildlife
Vast and undeveloped wilderness makes Lake Clark National Park & Preserve the home for lots of wildlife.
Plan Around Wildlife
A good stop is not just something to read about. Once it belongs on the day, move into a saved trip and build the route around it.
Use this detail page to confirm that the stop is worth it, then carry that decision into a trip draft while the park context is still fresh.
Wildlife Details
There's no shortage of wildlife at Lake Clark. On the land, keep an eye out for black and brown bears, caribou, Dall's sheep, moose, and wolves. In the park's lakes, rivers, and other waterways, sockeye salmon, rainbow trout, and arctic grayling are among the 25 resident fish species. In the sky, keep an eye out for any of the more than 180 bird species that spend time in the park, including eagles, hawks, and Peregrine falcons, not to mention plenty of waterfowl and migrating birds. So, grab your binoculars and follow the viewing guidelines to make the most of your time: give wildlife plenty of space; approach slowly, quietly and indirectly; try and view animals without changing their behavior or starting them; don't feed any animal; and always be respectful of wildlife and their home.
