Camping Details

Because Lake Clark is largely a trail-free wilderness, you can camp anywhere you'd like when visiting the park. There is one designated camping area on Upper Twin Lake, just west of the Proenneke Historic Site, if you're looking for something a bit more civilized. Wherever you decide to camp, however, be sure you're prepared: there isn't any help nearby when you're sleeping under the stars. A backcountry permit for camping is not required, but you should complete a [Voluntary Backcountry Registration](http://www.nps.gov/lacl/planyourvisit/upload/Voluntary%20Backcountry%20Registration.pdf) for informational purposes. It's important to know that park rangers will not track your movements in the park, so be sure and leave a trip plan with a friend or relative as a safety precaution. Before heading out on a camping trip, be sure to review the park's rules about destroying vegetation, disposal of human waste, trash, drones, firearms, picnicking, and food storage, and brush up on safety precautions.
