Backcountry Information
A remote location makes it feel like all of Lake Clark National Park & Preserve is backcountry.
Plan Around Backcountry Information
A good stop is not just something to read about. Once it belongs on the day, move into a saved trip and build the route around it.
Use this detail page to confirm that the stop is worth it, then carry that decision into a trip draft while the park context is still fresh.
Backcountry Information Details
Because of its remote location, nearly all of the park feels like backcountry, and while backcountry permits for camping and hiking are not required, the park asks that you complete a Voluntary Backcountry Registration for informational purposes. It's important to know that the park service will not track your movement through the park; be sure and leave a trip plan with a friend or relative as a safety precaution. If you do venture into the backcountry, you'll find undeveloped wilderness and experience solitude and self-reliance perhaps not seen anyplace else. Before heading out, be sure to review the park's rules about destroying vegetation, disposal of human waste, trash, drones, firearms, picnicking, and proper food storage, and brush up on your survival skills and safety awareness.
