The borough includes the towns and villages of Ambler, Buckland, Deering, Kiana, Kivalina, Kobuk, Kotzebue, Noatak, Noorvik, Selawik and Shungnak as well as the National Park and seven other federally protected lands. It is the second largest borough in the state of Alaska. The seat of the borough is located in Kotzebue.
